Dreamwave+Retrowave

Retrowave may be the best term to describe the sound that’s closest to the optimistic music straight out of the 80’s. The romantic pop sounds of youth
culture, warm coastal days, and even hotter nights is captured in Retrowave. Some may actually call this Dreamwave instead. You be the judge.

Dreamwave is a newer term also used by a small part of the community to describe the chilled out side of synthwave, with slow tempos and cinematic sounding tracks. A few select musicians devote this sound to their albums (rather than just a few tracks like many more artists). There’s a fair amount of crossover between Dreamwave and Retrowave and name confusion as well. Just don’t call this Chillwave as that existed outside of Synthwave as did Vaporwave.
