Everyone can relate to having little or no money, especially if you have a low-paying, dead job—particularly the end of the American Dream. For many people, buying a house or living on your own even in an apartment is elusive and out of reach. Child Seat, featuring the duo and collaborators singer/songwriter Madeleine Matthews and producer/songwriter Josiah Mac, weigh in on this all-too-familiar conversation with their take on that dire situation in “Money,” their latest single. Matthews and Mac have wisely and perceptively crafted an indie pop/rock track that is musically sharp, catchy, and contemporary. You don’t necessarily forget your problems, but they go down much easier and smoother listening to “Money.” The production is rich and busy in a good and purposeful way. There is the cash register ringing in the background of the song used to drive home the point illustrating how the currency of cash drives American capitalism. “Money” packs a bright and reverberating punch with the dynamic, sophisticated, and stylized use of synths, percussion, guitars, and drums.
